You can choose between fresh basil, thyme, oregano, chilli; you could also use dried versions. To prepare the sauce, you will have to follow a few simple steps. You should fry the onion and garlic gently at first, add the rest of the ingredients, and simmer for several minutes. If there is too much juice/liquid, you can switch to medium-high heat and carry on cooking until you have a thicker sauce. If you don't like chunky sauce, you can use a blender or a food processor to make it smoother.

Homemade Tomato Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp virgin olive oil
  • 1 chopped medium onion
  • 2-3 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1 can tomatoes
  • 0.25 teaspoon thyme
  • 0.5 teaspoon oregano
  • 0.25 teaspoon of sugar
  • pinch chilli flakes
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat the virgin olive oil over medium heat, add the diced onion, garlic and fry on medium heat for 5 minutes till translucent.
  2. Add the tomatoes, bring to boil and then simmer on medium-low heat for 15 minutes.
  3. Add the spices, season with salt and black pepper and simmer for 5 - 10 minutes longer to get a thicker sauce.
